Four-step competency-based learning model: Learn, Assess, Evaluate, and Implement.

About the Course:

This Grid-Interactive Solar PV: Installation & Operation microcredential trains PV technicians to understand, install, and safely operate grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) systems that supply solar energy directly to the electrical grid without battery storage.

Learners will explore grid-interactive system components, inverter operation, utility connections, energy flow, and system protection. Through interactive practice, technicians will learn to verify system connections, monitor power flow, identify common operating issues, and follow safe procedures when working with grid-connected PV systems.

The course emphasizes electrical safety, system performance, proper grid interaction, and industry-standard practices to support reliable and efficient solar installations.

Technicians will gain practical experience in understanding grid-connected PV operation, verifying system performance, troubleshooting common issues, and supporting safe and reliable solar energy production.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the purpose and operation of grid-interactive PV systems without storage
  • Identify major system components, including PV modules, inverters, disconnects, and grid connections
  • Explain energy flow between the PV array, inverter, building loads, and utility grid
  • Understand inverter synchronization and grid-interactive operation
  • Verify electrical connections and system operating conditions
  • Identify common system faults and performance issues
  • Follow safe procedures when working with energized grid-connected PV systems
  • Document system checks and report performance issues accurately

Course delivered through our LMS and accessible in both VR and web. Learn on the web anytime, or enjoy immersive VR training with your own Oculus VR headset.
