About the Course:

This High-Voltage Battery Replacement and Verification microcredential trains HEV technicians to safely diagnose, remove, replace, and validate faulty battery modules within High-Voltage (HV) battery packs used in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs). The course emphasizes proper isolation procedures, module replacement techniques, battery pack reassembly, and post-repair verification to ensure safe and reliable vehicle operation.

Learners will practice real-world battery service procedures, including identifying failed modules, performing high-voltage system shutdown, disassembling battery packs, replacing battery modules, reconnecting electrical components, verifying battery balance, and conducting functional testing. The course reinforces manufacturer-recommended procedures, electrical safety, and quality assurance throughout the replacement process.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify faulty battery modules using diagnostic procedures and battery testing equipment.
  • Perform high-voltage system shutdown following established safety protocols.
  • Safely remove and disassemble the hybrid battery pack for service.
  • Replace damaged battery modules using proper handling and installation procedures.
  • Reassemble battery packs while ensuring correct electrical connections and torque specifications.
  • Verify battery module balance and system integrity after replacement.
  • Follow high-voltage safety standards and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Document battery replacement procedures and inspection results for maintenance records.

Course delivered via LMS and requires an Oculus VR headset for hands-on VR simulations.

Workforce Development

Plug-in hybrid electric vehicle system architecture training

At ImmerseLearn, we prepare HEV technicians with the practical skills required to safely service hybrid battery systems through immersive VR-based training. This microcredential develops confidence in battery module replacement procedures, high-voltage safety, and post-repair verification while reinforcing industry best practices for hybrid vehicle maintenance.

How this course strengthens workforce skills:

Battery Module Diagnostics
Learn how to identify faulty battery modules using diagnostic tools, voltage measurements, resistance testing, and battery management system data. Technicians develop the ability to accurately determine when a battery module requires replacement.
High-Voltage Battery Service +
Practice safely isolating the high-voltage system, removing battery covers, disconnecting electrical connections, and accessing battery modules while following proper lockout and safety procedures.
Battery Module Replacement +
Develop hands-on experience removing defective battery modules, installing replacement modules, securing electrical connections, and ensuring correct assembly according to manufacturer specifications.
Engine and Drivetrain Integration +
Develop the ability to understand how internal combustion engines integrate with electric drive systems, transmission systems, and hybrid drivetrains. Learn how power is transferred efficiently between both propulsion sources.
Battery Pack Reassembly and Validation +
Understand proper battery pack reassembly procedures, including reconnecting bus bars, installing covers, verifying torque specifications, and restoring the battery system to operational condition.

By completing this microcredential, technicians will gain the practical knowledge and confidence needed to safely replace faulty battery modules in Hybrid Electric Vehicles, restore high-voltage battery performance, verify proper system operation, and perform battery service procedures in accordance with industry safety and manufacturer standards.
