Four-step competency-based learning model: Learn, Assess, Evaluate, and Implement.

About the Course:

This PV Grounding & Bonding Installation microcredential trains PV technicians to correctly install grounding and bonding systems for photovoltaic (PV) installations to ensure electrical safety, equipment protection, and compliance with industry standards.

Learners will practice industry-standard procedures including identifying grounding and bonding components, installing grounding electrodes, bonding PV modules, mounting structures, enclosures, and electrical equipment, verifying grounding continuity, and ensuring proper fault current paths throughout the PV system. The course emphasizes precision, safety, and compliance with applicable electrical codes to reduce electrical hazards and improve long-term system reliability.

Technicians will gain hands-on experience in installing grounding and bonding systems, inspecting electrical connections, verifying continuity, and ensuring safe, reliable, and code-compliant PV system operation.

Learners can also apply these skills through our Installing PV Modules training.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the purpose of grounding and bonding in PV systems
  • Identify grounding and bonding components used in photovoltaic installations
  • Install grounding conductors and bonding jumpers correctly
  • Bond PV modules, racking systems, enclosures, and electrical equipment
  • Install grounding electrodes and grounding electrode conductors
  • Verify grounding continuity and effective fault current paths
  • Follow safe work practices while installing grounding and bonding systems
  • Document installation and inspection results accurately

Learners can also explore our PV racking installation training to understand grounding and bonding across mounting structures.

Course delivered through our LMS and accessible in both VR and web. Learn on the web anytime, or enjoy immersive VR training with your own Oculus VR headset.

Workforce Development

Technician verifying grounding continuity in a photovoltaic system

At ImmerseLearn, we equip solar technicians with essential grounding, bonding, and electrical safety skills required for modern PV installations. This microcredential strengthens installation accuracy, code compliance, and system reliability through immersive VR-based learning.

Grounding and Bonding Installation Techniques
Learn how to properly install grounding conductors, bonding jumpers, grounding electrodes, and equipment grounding systems using industry-standard methods. Technicians develop the skills needed to create safe electrical pathways that protect personnel and equipment from electrical faults.
Safe Electrical Installation Practices +
Practice critical safety procedures while installing grounding and bonding systems, including proper PPE usage, safe handling of electrical components, correct tool selection, and adherence to lockout/tagout and electrical safety practices. Emphasis is placed on minimizing electrical hazards and ensuring safe installation procedures.
System Inspection and Verification +
Understand how to inspect grounding and bonding installations, verify electrical continuity, identify improper connections, and ensure all metallic components are effectively bonded. Technicians will learn to recognize installation deficiencies that could compromise safety or system performance.
Testing and Compliance +
Apply grounding and bonding installation procedures to meet industry electrical standards and code requirements. Learners complete the process by verifying grounding continuity, documenting inspection results, and supporting safe, reliable, and long-lasting PV system operation.

By completing this microcredential, technicians will gain the confidence and technical expertise needed to install grounding and bonding systems, verify electrical safety, ensure code compliance, protect PV equipment from electrical faults, and support safe, reliable, and high-performing solar PV installations.
