About the Course:

This Steel Pipe and Fittings Installation microcredential trains Plumbing technicians to safely measure, cut, thread, assemble, and install steel piping systems used in residential, commercial, and light industrial plumbing applications. 

Learners will practice real-world installation techniques including work area preparation, pipe measurement, cutting and threading, fitting selection, pipe assembly, joint sealing, system alignment, pipe support installation, leak inspection, and pressure testing. The course emphasizes safety, plumbing code compliance, and installation accuracy to ensure durable, leak-free, and reliable piping systems. 

Technicians will gain hands-on experience in installing steel pipes and fittings, minimizing installation errors, and ensuring proper system integrity, long-term performance, and customer satisfaction.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify steel pipe types, fittings, and their applications within plumbing systems
  • Safely prepare the work area and gather the required tools and materials
  • Measure, mark, cut, and thread steel pipes accurately for installation
  • Select and install appropriate fittings, couplings, elbows, tees, unions, and adapters
  • Follow manufacturer guidelines and local plumbing code requirements during installation
  • Apply proper thread sealing compounds or PTFE tape to create leak-free joints  
  • Align, secure, and support steel piping systems for safe and reliable operation
  • Perform pressure testing and leak inspections safely and effectively

Course delivered via LMS and requires an Oculus VR headset for hands-on VR simulations.
